Cyberattack Disrupts 911 Service Across Central Texas

A cyberattack, identified as a "robocall" or Telephony Denial of Service (TDoS) attack, disrupted 911 services across Central Texas, including Burnet County, Llano County, and Marble Falls, on Sunday, August 4, 2024. The attack overwhelmed the AT&T network with a large volume of automated calls, resulting in 911 callers and dispatchers being unable to communicate clearly, missing address information, and, in some cases, calls not going through. The disruption lasted over five hours, from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., before services were restored. Emergency calls were rerouted through neighboring call centers during the outage, and all affected systems were normalized by Sunday evening. Authorities are investigating the incident, and public safety services have assured residents that they are fully operational.
