Cyberattack Disrupts Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's Phone Systems

On November 19, 2024, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) experienced a cyberattack that disrupted its technology systems, resulting in a system-wide phone outage. The attack occurred early Tuesday morning, executed by unknown individuals. The MPRB's Information Technology Services department promptly implemented measures to mitigate further impacts. As of November 22, the phone lines remain down, but the MPRB's website continues functioning, providing information on parks, services, and programs.

There is no evidence that the systems used for program registration, such as those for classes or facility reservations, were affected. The MPRB is actively investigating the extent of the breach to determine if any sensitive information was accessed. The specific nature of the cyberattack has not been disclosed. In the interim, the public is advised to call 911 for matters requiring Park Police or Minneapolis Police assistance. The MPRB acknowledges the increasing prevalence of such cyberattacks across private and public sectors and appreciates the public's patience as they resolve the issue.
