OneBlood Issues Urgent Call for Donors Following Ransomware Attack
OneBlood, a major blood donation service provider in the southeastern United States, is urgently requesting blood donations following a ransomware attack that has significantly impacted its operations. The attack, which compromised OneBlood's network systems, has forced the organization to switch to manual processes, slowing down its ability to collect, test, and distribute blood. OneBlood is working closely with cybersecurity experts and federal, state, and local agencies to address the situation. In response to the reduced capacity, the organization has asked over 250 hospitals it serves to activate critical blood shortage protocols. The national blood community is rallying to support OneBlood, with blood centers across the country sending donations. While all blood types are needed, there is an urgent demand for O Positive, O Negative, and Platelet donations. OneBlood emphasizes that the blood supply is crucial and urges eligible donors to make appointments to donate as soon as possible.
