Ransomware Attack Shuts Down Clay County, Indiana Government Offices

On the morning of July 9, 2024, Clay County, Indiana, detected a ransomware attack that disrupted county systems and forced the closure of the Clay County Courthouse and Health Department. The county's IT department identified unauthorized activity shortly after midnight, leading to an immediate response to isolate affected systems. As a result, data access and electronic connections with state partners were severed. The Clay County Commissioners have closed the courthouse offices and the Health Department until further notice while they assess the situation and restore services. The Sheriff's Office and 9-1-1 Dispatch Center remain operational, although initial disruptions to non-emergency lines have been resolved. There is no evidence of personal data compromise at this time, and cybersecurity professionals are working to address the attack. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
