Cyberattack Shuts Down Monroe County, Indiana for a Week

Monroe County, Indiana, experienced a significant disruption due to a ransomware attack by the Russia-linked Blacksuit cybercrime syndicate. Detected last week, the attack crippled all county offices and local courts. Initially described as a "technological event," the breach was confirmed on Monday. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) attributes Blacksuit as a spinoff of Royal ransomware, which has demanded over $275 million from various organizations. The extent of the breach and data accessed is still under investigation, with officials urging residents to lock their credit. Despite no immediate ransom demand, county operations, including online banking, have been severely impacted. The county is working to restore services and enhance cybersecurity measures, while residents are advised to take protective actions against potential data misuse.
